The majority of visitors to Ghana have a safe and healthy experience. To ensure your health and safety it is important to make sure you have had the correct vaccinations and possess good anti-malarial medication. If you decide to travel with Hand in Hand Tours we will provide you with further guidance as a matter of course.
Vaccinations
Consult your GP or travel clinic 3 months or more before travelling. For further advice and information on vaccinations and health while in Ghana see:

Immunisations
Confirm primary courses and boosters are up to date as recommended for life in Britain – including vaccines given to special groups because of risk exposure or complications (e.g. hepatitis B for health care workers, influenza and pneumococcal vaccines for the elderly).
Courses or boosters usually advised: diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, hepatitis A, typhoid and yellow fever.
Vaccines sometimes advised: hepatitis B, rabies, tuberculosis, meningococcal meningitis and cholera.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from all travellers.

Malaria
Malaria precautions are essential in all areas. Sensibly covering up at dusk and dawn and sleeping under a net reduces your chances of getting malaria considerably. As guides we are very aware of the most effective methods for protection and will advise accordingly.
Avoid mosquito bites by covering up with clothing such as long sleeves and long trousers especially after sunset, using insect repellents on exposed skin and, when necessary, sleeping under a mosquito net.
Check with your doctor or nurse about suitable antimalarial tablets: atovaquone/proguanil OR doxycycline OR mefloquine is usually recommended.
